About Us

Elements of Healing Opens

Scott and Barbara Moylan opened Elements of Healing on December 1 in Essex Junction. "We're a holistic health center," says Scott Moylan, Licensed Acupuncturist and counselor. "We offer several services that follow the Oriental healing perspective of health through balance, including acupuncture, traditional Chinese herbal consultations, shiatsu massage, traditional Kung Fu classes, and Qi Gong. Our driving force is to help people find the healing within themselves." Moylan became interested in acupuncture when researching homeopathic and naturopathic medicines. "It's amazing that a lot of the Western pharmaceutical manufacturers are using the active ingredients from traditional herbs in their medications. A lot of people don't know this."

Both Moylans completed the same four-year acupuncture course at the New York College for Health Professions, becoming licensed in June of 2001. "I had a practice in New York and was an adjunct faculty member teaching theory and point location." He is now an adjunct faculty member at the Green Mountain Institute in White River Junction.

In addition to acupuncture, Chinese herbal consultations, and Shiatsu, Moylan teaches the Xing Yi Chuan system of Kung Fu. "Xing Yi Chuan is a health system as well as a martial arts system. It is classified as an internal system, which means the power is generated more from relaxation and proper body mechanics than muscle strength, making it suitable for both men and women, and people with disabilities," he explains. He trained with Sifu Peter Yates and studied with Master Sifu Luo Guo Hua in Guang Zhou, China. "Barbara and I had an opportunity to go to China and spent six weeks in training at the Guang Zhou International Oriental Medicine Teaching Hospital. This gave me the opportunity to meet and train with Sifu Luo. It was amazing!" Ten classes in Kung Fu and Qi Gong are held weekly.

Community courses will be taught to increase awareness in Oriental medicine, including a series on the subject. "We will also offer herbal classes to teach awareness and create a holistic herbal pharmacy." Classes in massage are also being planned, as well as the subjects of immune disorders and Oriental medicine, sports injury and Oriental medicine, and meditation. "We like to hear from people to learn what they are looking for."
